Mission
The mission of Bank Street College is to improve the education of children and their teachers by applying to the education process all available knowledge about learning and growth and by connecting teaching and learning meaningfully to the outside world. In so doing, we seek to strengthen not only individuals, but the community as well, including family, school, and the larger society in which adults and children, in all their diversity, interact and learn. We see in education the opportunity to build a better society.

Master's Degrees in Education and Continuing Education for Teachers, Leaders, and Education Professionals
Thoughtful and knowledgeable teachers and leaders are needed now more than ever. For more than a century, Bank Street has focused on understanding how students learn best. Here, you'll enter a dedicated community of educators learning to improve the quality of classroom practice, advocate nationally for students and families, and promote system and policy change to bring effective and equitable teaching and learning to all.
Our in-person and online graduate programs for teachers and other education professionals include master's degree programs in teaching and learning, child life, museum studies, and educational leadership, in addition to professional certificate programs and a range of short-format courses, workshops, and special events.
These graduate programs lead to the Master of Science (MS), Master of Science in Education (MSEd), or the advanced Master of Education (EdM) and are grounded in current research and knowledge of human development, learning theory, and sustained clinical practice that meet the needs of today's learning environments.
With a master's degree or advanced certificate from Bank Street, you'll stand out as a forward-thinking educator and leader—confident, well-prepared, and ready to thrive across the diverse settings where children and adults live and learn.

Bank Street has a long history of leadership in progressive education. At the heart of everything we do is an ongoing process of inquiry into what works best for children at each stage of their development. As part of Bank Street College of Education, which includes the nation's leading graduate school for teachers and leaders in education for children, the Bank Street children's programs are continually refining and applying best practices based on an understanding of what works for children and teachers. Our work aims to improve the care and education of children and students from birth through middle school.

Our Work with Schools and Communities
Bank Street works with leaders from schools, districts, states, teacher preparation programs, and communities across the country to advance system-wide change and support capacity building at scale. Our work aims to improve the care and education of students from birth through higher education by strengthening and enabling the success of the adults who support them. Through partnerships and programs led by our Graduate School of Education and the Bank Street Education Center, we are building an evidence base to inform local practice and address some of the nation's deepest organizational challenges currently hindering effective and equitable teaching and learning for all.
By tapping into the longstanding knowledge-base and expertise of Bank Street educators and leaders, we tailor our work to fit the distinct strengths, needs, and opportunities of program partners to help students thrive in school settings. Our work is grounded in Bank Street's commitment to strengths-based, learner-centered, and equitable educational practices.
Research, Publications & Policy
For more than a century, Bank Street College has gathered, documented, and shared knowledge about how children and adults learn best to help improve the education of all children and their teachers. Today, our evidence-based resources are used to prepare teachers and leaders to make a powerful difference in the lives of students and to address critical challenges in education through system-wide change and policy work.
